As always, any online session requires introductions :). Please state where you are from, why you are here, or anything else marginally relevant!

I'm a researcher at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. I'm particularly interested in technologies for education, learning environments design and online teaching strategies. I'm sure this conference will open new and interesting opportunities to reinforce new educational and training models.

In the USA, but "virtually" anywhere I want to be.

I'm a "flat-earth" kinda guy that believes that current and emerging technologies have given us the ability to connect to each other and flatten many of the obstacles that have impeded communications.

I too am interested in the use of learning objects. With the increased cost of building good simulations and games, it is essential that these be made available to a wider audience. It just isn't worth the expense of time and money to create a simulation for a class of 20 - 30 students. If such a product can be added to a LO repository and made available to thousands of students it becomes cost effective.

My other related interest is the semantic web. I envision a "lesson engine" that can use semantics to assemble lessons for individual learners from LOs stored across the web. Inputs to this lesson engine would be learner characteristics, lesson objectives, and pedagogy. With that input the engine would assemble LOs for introducing the topic, presenting the information, providing practice, and eventually assessing the learning. The assessment would then become a part of the learner's characteristics. The assessment results would also be applied to the metadata regarding the LO to determine its efficacy.

I work in higher ed as a technologist and consult on user experience and online learning topics. For more about me, see my consulting website, http://www.verythere.com, or my professional website at Indiana University: http://www.marknotess.com.

I would like to see AACE emphasize quality over quantity while still being open to broad participation--a goal difficult for organizations or conferences to achieve, but one that social technologies can enable.

Greetings. I am a professor of special education at National University in La Jolla, CA. Before coming to CA I was a professor for 30 years at the University of Florida. I have been an active member of the Conference Advisory Committee for the Teacher Education Division of the Council for Exceptional Children and I chaired our annual conference two years ago. I look forward to learning about the future of conferences! Thanks. Stu

As a board development specialist, I am always looking for new approaches to assist school boards in acquiring the knowledge and skill sets to help their districts succeed. As a member of a professional association board, I have always been concerned that most our members' training budgets went to our host hotels (rooms, meals, and space), leaving little for the association to build better programs. Thank you for addressing this.

Of marginal (but related) relevance: Until the 1600's, there were few more important to the transfer of knowledge than the scibe ... and then Gutenberg. Also, since I know that the more I talk the less others learn, how can these new tools allow me to get out of the way?

my name is ellen wagner and I am a learning industry analyst. based in California USA. I am here because I am interested in efforts than help bridge the gaps between research and practice. Having experienced this learning world from the perspectives of tenured academic researcher, public policy analyst *and* software exec, I am personally quite mindful of the big differences between and among those of us who work in this space.

Craig,
Love to help out on this one! I’ve been very fortunate to be involved with the conference for a number of years. The potential to use media is everywhere. Being kind of a marketing guy I know that at the very beginning of marketing the conferences we need to show people some of the things that go on at the conferences. Every year that I’ve been lucky enough to be invited I’ve tried to put together a brief video of the locations prior to my media tutorials. I try to show it by doing it. I’ve also been able to demonstrate live video sessions from venues, to the US, and back from Lugano, Montreal, Orlando, Vancouver, and also last year. (Pretty stressful for me since I never know what the connection will be like ;-)) and the earthquake at Elearn was exciting) Live and on-demand video is where we are as both marketing and learning tools. And there is a whole lot more…. Contact me off-list if you’d like.

I'm afraid I'm part of the reason for this Conference. I'm the chair of the ED-MEDIA steering committee. We really need to respond to the criticism "Where is the media in ED-MEDIA?" and hope that this conversation will help us make ED-MEDIA a model of modern conferences. As all good chairs should do, I'm challenging you to tell us what to do (please get it right! :-).

Hi Everyone,
I'm a once-reluctant-now-sold-out mainly online Assistant Prof at the University of Central Florida in sunny Orlando. (I just returned from AACTE in Chicago and am OOH so grateful to be warm!) I've been teaching online for 8 years and each semester it gets better and better.

My teaching area is reading (pre-service and graduate level), but my research area is online interactions and the ways in which instructors can encourage what I call a "connected stance." This stance is characterized by students wondering, chasing salient rabbits, initiating questions, challenging each other, etc. I have been researching and writing about how to increase social presence by encouraging this "connected stance."

I saw you, Curt Bonk, at Sloan-C here in Orlando. . . Fabulous! I'm still trying out things you suggested. . .

I am happy that AACE is thinking about how to conduct conferences in different ways. Count me in!

I am an Assistant Professor for Dakota State University and am interested in any method that would help enhance online learning. I teach at a satellite of DSU and we are in the processing of building hybrid (combined online and F2F classes) for students. Any information I can garner will be of great help.

Hello all,

I became interested in social media and how it could impact learning while in the Learning and Technology Program at Royal Roads. George Siemens was in my cohort there and even though I dropped the program I have remained a fan of George's.

Also while in that program I interviewed Curtis Bonk, am also a big fan of his. So, really I'm like an edutech groupie lol

K, seriously, I'm returning to Royal Roads to finish the MA, in Leadership this time, and will be focusing on social media and organizational learning. I've wanted to explore Ning for a while and am always interested in new ways of doing things.

I live in Chilliwack, BC, work as counselor and run a needle exchange program and health contact centre for a non-prof. Teach on the side, online and f2f.

My blog lives at www.jamiebillingham.com
