I'm here because another group that I'm involved with is trying to figure out how to host a virtual online conference. It's the CIC (Big Ten plus University of Chicago) Learning Technology Group. Previously, we have only had f2f conferences before, but we want to consider going online because of travel costs and budget restrictions at our universities.
I am Xanthé Horste, a multi-disciplinary designer, with aspirations to collaborate with the Numerati elite and a desire to maximize the potential of innovative technology. I learned about this conference from my subscription to the AACE--Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education email list.
I am passionate about Educational Technology and hope to improve the transfer of knowledge through effective Interaction Design and enhanced Customer Experience Design.
Through my work in corporate training and public education, I have discovered that there is a devastating trend to “stick with what has been proven over time” for both traditional academic teaching, as well as implicit knowledge transfer within an organization. It has been extremely difficult to demonstrate the success of embracing the new technologies to transform the learning process at all levels. Having said that, I am pleased by the efforts of projects like the ASU charter school that are doing the work to prove the business case for making the leap to integrate social technologies (blogs, Twitter, Social Network sites, RSS) into the learning.
I am looking forward to learn more about what “works” and what “doesn’t” as well as defining strategies for stakeholder buy-in.
Hi! I'm Cathi Phillips, instructional designer with DELTA (Distance Education and Learning Technology Applications) at North Carolina State University. The current budget crunch has restricted travel and professional development. Our statewide conference was converted to an online conference at the last possible moment. I'm interested in learning about others' experiences with running/participating in online conferences. Glad to come across this conference today! :-)
I'm an education specialist working with USAID in Lima, Peru. I manage a couple of projects for education policy reform: the first one to improve reading instruction with early primary teachers; the second one, on decentralization and rural education.
I found this topic interesting, giving the importance we give to conferences as a way to academic networking.
I have to admit that in forums with so many topics and hundreds of responses I don't know where to begin to interact. I'm not sure who's going to read these intros either :-).
However, I'd like to it to be known that I updated and improved and cleaned up my slide show and uploaded it to Slideshare.
Much information has been added and the dead links have been replaced with good ones. I think it's pretty sharp now: http://tinyurl.com/aace09vance
Of course I tagged it aace09 :-)
Thanks for honoring me with your attendance, those who were there.
Hallo, I am a internet editor for Kennisnet, a great website for children and students in the Netherlands. My chapter is soft skills. Kennisnet. Always looking for new ways to learn and teach with IT.
I'm "The Virtual Meeting Coach" and I live and work online from Ashland, Oregon. I'm here because I followed a link from an old friend, Paul Schumann, and when I opened the door, most of the smartest people I'm learning from informally are already here!
For the last several years, I've been unable to travel much for conferences, so I'm becoming increasingly addicted to learning online in informal ways. My work involves helping independent business people, nonprofit organizations, and independent teachers make smart use of social media and virtual meetings to connect with clients, customers, and friends when they can't be with them face-to-face.
I'm increasingly fascinated with the expansion of "informal" learning and the ways that we're learning to help each other make the best of the present moment, wherever we are.
I'm a professor at Kapi`olani Community College and a doctoral student in EdTech at the University of Hawai`i. I love social media, and am very glad to have been directed to this site by Dr. Ellen Hoffman, who runs the doctoral program.
My name is Curtis Slater and I'm a researcher with the Calgary Board of Education (Calgary, Alberta, Canada). My research mostly focuses on the impact of technology on teaching and learning, but I also do some program evaluation work as well. I'm really looking forward to ED-MEDIA as this is my first major conference and I'm excited to see what is being done in the world of technology and education.
Hello, I am Katerina Glezou, physicist, teacher of physics & informatics and PhD student at the Department of Informatics & Telecommunications of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
I am mostly interested in designing learning environments that support learning through exploration, expression, construction and negotiation, as well as, bringing forward the basic parameters of an effective alternative constructionist teaching approach in the level of planning, development and implementation.
Not directly teaching, i have a support role for students and academic staff at my university (DMU in the UK) for distance learning programmes. I am increasingly interested in staff education of the benefits of using online tools. Am keen to promote informal learning for students involved in our courses as i think it is a crying shame that a lot of staff don't have the time, inclination or insight to help students learn using new online tools.
I do not think flexibility is the greatest thing about distance learning. I believe synchronous tools are very important to keep students on track, promote a feeling of connectedness and consequently learn more and enjoy learning.
I think i can learn a lot from the conversations and interactions in this conference. Happy to participate
I teach at the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes in Mexico and am an EFL teacher educator/foreign language coordinator. I´m a doctoral student in education: curricular and instructional leadership. I´m interested in researching personal learning networks among EFL teachers and students and am taking this course to see others are using technology to promote personal interaction.
