This virtual conference on transforming conferences should be very interesting. I love to travel to conferences and go to most AACE E-Learns conferences and SITE quite often, but travel budgets are shrinking so my wings are clipped. I hope the collegial exchange that occurs at conferences doesn't disappear. Often a conference is like a retreat to focus on the wealth of information available and take in as much as possible in a short time. When a conference is local and I commute, I find I miss most sessions trying to keep up with the office, email, meetings, etc. which partaking of the conference. It really does not work for me, I don't give the conference the attention. In trying to participate in occasional webinars I find the same - my other duties distract from taking time to participate in the personal professional development. But I'll try again with this conference -- and see how much I can do. The idea is great and certainly conferences need to re-invent themselves in light of these economic times. I'll be very interested in hearing from others.
